'White Rose Maths' is the scheme we use to teach maths. Follow the link below to access lesson video tutorials and activities to go along with these videos - these have been specially designed for use at home. Before the closure, we were due to finish teaching 'Time' and move on to teaching fractions, so lessons about fractions have not been taught yet. It is important that the children continue to learn maths at the same rate that they would if school was open so please try to access these lessons. If you are struggling with any aspect of this, please email us to see if we can point you in the right direction!

Creative Writing

Using the picture above, write a letter or a story about the characters and the adventures that might happy. Remember to use describing words and joining words to make your story/letter better. Please send an email of your letter or story to Miss Trigg and Mr Patten -

'Phonics Play' - Use this website to support your child with their spellings, writing and language. Phase 5 is the phase most Year 2 children will be working on.

Each week, there will be a different pattern to practise. These sheets are from Twinkl. We have decided to use these rather than our usual sheet because it has a teaching powerpoint and activities alongside the spellings. The spellings that the children are usually set are based on 'Support for Spelling' lessons taught in school By using the Twinkl sheets, you will be able to show the children the rules/patterns so that the children can apply their learning to a wider range of words than are being tested each week.

How to use:

1. Explore the powerpoint together.

2. Discuss the rule/pattern in the words for this week.

3. Complete the look, cover, write, check daily.

4. Use the word search to engage with the spellings further.

5. Test the children at the end of the week. If they have spelt all words correctly - well done! Let us know by email us and we will celebrate this together. If some spellings are incorrect, look at these together and work out why they are incorrect.

Remember, it is important to read to an adult or older sibling every day at home, as well as practising number bonds and times tables. If you would like help with this, please ask.

Read Aloud - Listen to authors, actors and astronauts read books aloud to your children:

  • Oliver Jeffers - Via Instagram, this author will be reading books aloud every evening at 6pm.
  • Josh Gad - Via Twitter, this actor (the voice of Olaf!) will be reading books aloud every day.
  • Story Time from Space - A great website with astronauts telling stories to children in space.
  • Also trending on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube - #OperationStoryTime

Once you have used all of the links above, you could carry out your own investigation. Redo the investigation in the link above in real life using a toy car, train, bus or any other toy you have at home.

How to structure your scientific investigation:

  • First, write a prediction - what do you think will happen?
  • Next, write a method - How will you test to find the answer to your question?
  • Then, carry out the investigation.
  • Finally, write your results - What did you find out?

UFO Collision

UFO Crash Landing

Still image for this video
Sunday afternoon, something crashed outside Year 2 Owls and Squirrels. We are unsure what it could possibly be, so we have investigated the area. We have thought about words to describe this event.
