Production

On Tuesday 7th February 2017, Year 6 children were very lucky to be visited by a civil engineer called Paul- who works for AECOM.

Paul spoke to the children about rocks and soils and how he overcomes the different properties of these materials to design and build large building/ structures.

He showed Year 6 some of the projects he has been involved in, for example the Shard in London, The Olympic Stadium in Stratford and the new World Cup stadium in Qatar.

Paul then explained why building on mud is not a suitable material to build on, whereas sand has different properties and therefore makes it a better material to build on. Paul then showed us how to put foundations into a material like mud to enable us to build something on them.

What do you think would be the most ideal surface to build on?
